Forty researchers from the Institute’s EAST research network met for a workshop at the University of Applied Sciences Zittau/Gorlitz (Germany), June 11-13, 2015 to present research on the depopulation of rural areas across Central and Eastern Europe.

The Institute is very saddened to learn that Dr. Richard Suzman, Director of NIA's Division of Behavioral and Social Research has died.  Richard was a tremendous supporter  of the Institute of Population Ageing  and its work.  Along with colleagues across the globe who work on population ageing, the Institute here at Oxford owes a great debt to Richard, both for his foresight in promoting the concept of demographic ageing, and for his initial belief in and continued support of the work of the Oxford Institute of Population Ageing.

Sarah Harper will join the debate – ‘Taxing Times: Our Ageing Society’ hosted by the Common Sense Collective. As the post-war baby boom generation reaches its seventies this decade, the discussion will explore how we can work together to build a society in which people can continue to contribute and play an active role in their own future as part of an increasingly ageing population.

The event will take place on Tuesday 17th March from 7.30 pm at Central Hall, Westminster. A drinks reception will follow at 9 pm.

A panel of leading academics came together at the Oxford Martin School last week to discuss the problem of the world's growing population. The panel discussion, entitled 'Is the Planet Full?', followed the publication of the book of the same name, earlier this year, and focused on a variety of the topics and implications surrounding the issue in question.
